Requirements:

Intending Students must have a National Senior Certificate (NSC) (Degree endorsement) with at least 50% in the language of teaching and learning, and 40% in mathematics or 50% in Mathematics Literacy.

 Alternatively, they may have a Senior Certificate (SC) with matriculation exemption from the matriculation board with at least a D symbol on HG or alternatively a C symbol on SG in the language of teaching and learning and also have at least an F symbol on HG or an E symbol on SG in Mathematics.

Students who have a National Certificate Vocational (NCV) level 4 with at least 60% in three fundamental subjects including the language of teaching and learning are also welcome to apply. However, they should have 70% in 4 vocational subjects chosen from the NCV level 4 subjects.

Child and Adolescent Development

UNISA offers Child and Adolescent Development as a bridging course for students intending to Study Psychology or Psychology Education. After one year you are awarded a Higher Certificate in education. 

Guidance Counseling and Life Skills Development

The University of South Africa offers Guidance Counseling and Life Skills Development as a bridging course for students intending to study Psychology or Psychology Education. On completion of the one-year course, participants are awarded a Higher Certificate in education.

Requirements to Study for a Higher Certificate in Education

In order to study for a Higher Certificate in Education, you need to have a National Senior Certificate (NSC) with at least 30% in the language of teaching and learning. Failing that, you may still apply with a Senior Certificate (SC) with at least an F symbol on HG or alternatively an E symbol on SG in the language of teaching and learning. Prospective Students who have a National Certificate (Vocational) level 4 with an equivalent of at least 40% in the language of teaching and learning may also apply for spots.
