Requirements To Study Medicine At SMU (MEDUNSA)
- A National Curriculum Statement (NCS) with a minimum of four out of the usual seven subjects that have been selected from the assigned list in Grade 12. The assigned subjects are agricultural science, accounting, business studies, consumer studies, dramatic arts, history, geography, information technology, and economics.
- A score of a minimum achievement level of 50% with the four subjects.

What Do You Need To Study For The MBChB Certification
To be eligible for the competitive MBChB certification at SMU, the university’s point system converts your grade 12 achievement to an admission point for the available programs. The admission point is used by the SMU to calculate your admission point. The NSC level of achievement is awarded for percentages that you score in your Grade 12 subjects.
An admission point of 28 at least, in addition to a program-specific minimum score in specific subjects is required to study for the MBChB certification. Specific levels of achievement are required for certain school subjects for a prospective candidate to be admitted to the MBChB program.
NSC Levels of Achievement
- NSC level 2 achievement is between 30% to 39%.
- NSC level 3 achievement is between 40% to 49%.
- NSC level 4 achievement is between 50% to 59%.
- NSC level 5 achievement is between 60% to 69%.
- NSC level 6 achievement is between 70% to 79%.
- NSC level 7 achievement is between 80% to 89%.

How To Score a Minimum of 28 in your AP Score
- In 3 academic subjects, you need a minimum achievement level of 5 which is 60%. Each subject earns you 5 admission points which equal 15 Admission points.
- In another 3 academic subjects, you need to have an achievement level of 4 which is 50%. Each subject then earns you 4 admission points which equal 12 Admission points.
- In the subject of Life orientation, you need an achievement level that will get you 1 point or higher.
- A sum of all Admission points will be equal to 28 points which is the least admission point that is acceptable.

- You need to pass Mathematics at an achievement level of 5 (60%).
- You need to pass English at an achievement level of 4 (50%).
- You need to pass Physical Science at an achievement level of 5 (60%).
Requirements to Study Bachelor of Diagnostic Radiology B. RAD (DIAGN.) At SMU
The Bachelor of Diagnostic Radiology B. RAD (DIAGN) degree program has a distinct set of requirements that interested candidates must meet to be considered for admission. Due to capacity and population reasons, only a fixed number of candidates can be admitted to the Bachelor of Diagnostic Radiology degree program. Admission Requirements to Study B. RAD at SMU include:
- Applicants must be at least 18 years old at the time of admission.
- Applicants must have a Matriculation exemption certificate issued by the South African Matriculation Board.
- Pass marks in Mathematics, Physical Science, and a combined rating of 9 on standard grade.
- NSC examination with a minimum of 4 subjects passed out of the 7 school subjects with a minimum of level 4.

Matriculation Exemption Certificate
Applicants must be at least 18 years of age at the time of admission, and must also have a matriculation exemption certificate issued by the South African matriculation board. They must have pass marks in mathematics, and physical science, and a combined rating of 9 on higher or standard grades.
Candidates are also required to have taken the national senior certificate examinations, and must have passed at least 4 of the 7 school subjects with a minimum level of 4 (50%).
